About Carlbrook School

Named for the property on which it is located, Carlbrook School is a coeducational, college preparatory boarding school located on 200 acres in southern Virginia.  The school serves approximately 130 students from more than 25 states and the District of Columbia, as well as several foreign countries. Instruction is provided for grades 9 through 12, with postgraduate studies offered in select circumstances. Average class size is 8 students and the overall student/faculty ratio is 3:1.

Utilizing an innovative educational model where intellectual exploration and character development are integrated, Carlbrook School is an academic community designed to challenge and inspire students of high aptitude and potential who have struggled academically or socially in previous educational environments. The school is governed by a nine-member Board of Regents. Of the school’s 56 full-time professional faculty members, over 80% hold advanced (post-baccalaureate) degrees.

Carlbrook School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Virginia Council on Private Education, and is
a member of the Secondary School Admissions Testing Board, the
Educational Records Bureau and the Small Boarding Schools Association.
