College Counseling
The college admissions process is one of self-discovery, providing students with an opportunity to examine their strengths, challenges and ambitions as they begin to plan for college. The educational rewards of this process include learning the importance of organization and time-management, as well as how to make complex decisions that have long-term consequences. Under the direction of the Dean of Academics, the Carlbrook faculty provide guidance throughout the college admission process, in order to create a healthy, positive atmosphere in which to explore college choices. Through both individual counseling and college preparatory seminars, the faculty work in a supportive role with each student as they develop a balanced college list matched to their particular interests and abilities.
Students receive guidance regarding admission requirements, application deadlines, personal statements and letters of recommendation, and have access to updated college reference materials and catalogs. Individual and group study sessions help prepare students for the SAT, and practice tests are conducted to identify areas for improvement. Finally, tours of prominent college campuses are incorporated into educational trips, in order to inspire and to foster a mature understanding of the purpose of these institutions. Standardized Testing
All sophomores and juniors sit for the PSAT, and students are strongly encouraged to take the
SAT-I, ACT, and/or
SAT-II tests in their junior or senior year. SAT/ACT preparation courses are made available to all students. For the
2006-07 graduating classes, average standardized test scores were as follows:
