The Founders hold the belief that college admission is only the beginning of a student’s scholastic career following graduation, and thus should not be the ultimate academic goal of a college preparatory school. Rather, Carlbrook School is explicit in its commitment to readying students for the challenges of college, graduate school and early adulthood through the provision of essential skill sets, which include the ability to think critically, communicate logically and persuasively, and appreciate intellectual achievement.
The academic component of Carlbrook is deliberately rigorous and demanding, with expectations that continually escalate as the student advances through the program. Such scholastic rigor is achieved through intensive and individualized instruction in a variety of college preparatory courses designed to not only provide students with a strong academic foundation, but also stimulate and encourage the development of effective communication and critical thinking skills. All coursework thus focuses on gradually helping students learn to think both methodically and conceptually, while introducing them to topics typically reserved for collegiate study.
