Library
Carlbrook School libraryThe school’s Library provides a quiet, comfortable, and relaxed atmosphere for individual research and study, and makes available a collection of materials designed to support and enrich the school’s academic curriculum. Currently housing over 10,000 volumes, the Library provides students and faculty with access to a wide variety of print and electronic resources. Virtually all works currently housed in the Library have been hand-selected based on their contribution to the field in question.

Pure and applied science, history, politics, economics, sociology and the humanities (including philosophy, comparative and critical literature, foreign languages, art history, visual and performing arts, religion, and multicultural studies) are all well represented. Particularly strong are the classic and contemporary literature collections, which provide students the opportunity to analyze, interpret and critique important works of fiction. Standard and specialized reference works are available and updated regularly to keep the reference section complete and current. The school also maintains subscriptions to over 50 different newspapers and periodicals so as to allow the students to remain abreast of current events and heighten awareness of important issues and debates.

Carlbrook School technologyTECHNOLOGY
The founders of Carlbrook School hold firm the conviction that no school can adequately prepare its students for college without a commitment to technology. However, there are risks inherent to permitting students to have unrestricted access to computers, particularly in regards to the internet and external email. While it is important to consider these risks, it is equally important to equip students with the skills necessary to employ technology as a means of improving personal efficiency and effectiveness. The Board believes it understands the risks involved and has adequately planned to manage them. All students will have the use of laptop computers and will receive continued instruction on the use of databases, word processing, spreadsheets, time management software, and keyboarding. Our goal is to increase student computer proficiency in areas typically lacking and particularly those areas that could prove advantageous after graduation.
