Students at Carlbrook live in a structured and supportive environment. While students have ample time to explore outside interests and hobbies, the weekday schedule is highly formalized, and students are continually challenged by a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum. Students are held to high academic and interpersonal standards, and are expected to adhere to the school’s Honor Code. Though the atmosphere is more relaxed on the weekends, such days remain structured with extracurricular activities, field trips, campus events and community service work. As with all life at Carlbrook, students enjoy continual support and guidance from an experienced and dedicated faculty, and dormitory life at the school provides students with the opportunity to develop constructive and lasting friendships.
The Dean of Students is intimately involved in the life of the school, oversees the activities of students during the week and over the weekend, works closely with students and student committees, and with Faculty and Advisors. Thus the Dean is uniquely positioned to collect and coordinate information related to student participation in Academic, Advising, and extracurricular activities. As the Board feels that competent, effective and meaningful parent communication is critical to student success, Carlbrook has also established an Active Participation Benchmark program that facilitates routine parent involvement, information exchange and expectations management. In this way, the school can ensure uniformity of student experience.
